Engraving after Chappel, 1857, depicting the Battle of Princeton on January 3, 1777. After the successful surprise attack on the British and Hessian troops at Trenton on December 25 and 26, 1776, Washington scored a second important victory at Princeton by defeating the British and driving them toward New Brunswick.
